Plot Synopsis

Designed by Truffaut as a film to make women cry and men laugh, Shoot The Piano Player, simply baffled many viewers on its 1960 release. An audaciously offbeat and quietly romantic crime comedy, which, like Godard’s A Bout De Souffle, is built on the slightest of storylines.

It tells the tale of a reserved, honky-tonk pianist who falls foul of a pair of hoods, thanks to the exploits of his brother. Perfectly cast in the lead role, French institution, Charles Aznavour makes the haunted, yet quietly humorous pianist one of the most potent and sympathetic characters of the New Wave.

f the city and of the life of prostitutes. Godard also uses prostitution as a metaphor for both economic life and the position of the film-maker under capitalism.
