Plot Synopsis
A chilling psychological thriller from the director of Ginger Snaps - set on the Welsh coastline - about an estranged couple mourning the loss of their young daughter, Sarah. When they're visited by a girl named Ebrill, who claims to have died over 60 years ago and who bears a frightening resemblance to their dead child, the mother becomes convinced Sarah has gone to Annwyn, the Welsh equivalent of the underworld.
Based on Simon Maginn's best seller Sheep.
"Outwardly conventional, The Dark soon transcends its premise to become something far richer and stranger than those first reels might suggest: it is, in the end, a study of the inadequacies of various forms of orthodoxy, from religious faith to parental love. Director John Fawcett was responsible for the superb Ginger Snaps, and though working from another's screenplay here, manages to introduce enough in the way of emotional complexity to sustain out interest" Shane Danielsen - Edinburgh Film Festival
